Micropigmentation

(Permanent Makeup)

Micropigmentation

Micropigmentation (known more commonly as Permanent Makeup or Cosmetic Tattooing) is a state-of-the-art method of creating realistic, natural, and permanent augmentation to eyebrows, eyeliner, and facial freckles.

Step-by-step

Micropigmentation Process

Step 1

Measure 📐

We first create the perfect shape and dimensions to suit your personal preferences and features.

Step 2

Create 🖌

Then, using a state-of-the-art, digitally-controlled Micropigmentation machine, the specialist deposits pigment into the dermis layer of the skin. The Micropigmentation machine, needles, and pigment are purpose-built to create a more permanent effect, but are very different from traditional tattooing.

Step 3

Results 🎉

We are able to select the size of needle and exact depth of penetration. This allows a much higher degree of precision then standard cosmetic tattooing and a consistent distribution of pigment.

The results can range from subtle and natural or bold and beautiful depending on the personal style and preferences of each client.

What’s the difference?

Types of Micropigmentation

Brow Micropigmentation

Hairstroke Brows

Gives the effect of a natural hair that blends in with the client’s natural hair growth pattern. This is great for a client who is looking for something very natural and not too drastic of a difference from their appearance.

Brow Micropigmentation

Ombre Brows

Ombre brows is a natural and gradual gradient of shading throughout the brows. The brows will be lighter in the head region and darker and more defined in the body and tail region.

Brow Micropigmentation

Combo Brows

This can be combined with either microblading or hair stroke micropigmentation and ombre brows. The hair stroke effect gives realism to the brow while the shading throughout gives depth and dimension to the brow. This is a very realistic and polished look to the brow.

Brow Micropigmentation

Powdered Brows

Full Powdered brows is a very intense and highly pigmented technique. This is a very long-lasting form of micropigmentation and will last 5-10 years. The brows will look very solid.

Lip Blush

The popular styles

Lip Liner

This is a procedure in which the lips’ outside border is precisely tattooed, The pigment is intended to draw attention to the lips natural form and symmetry, and give the client the youthful look by defining the lip line. The outline could be used as an ideal and precise base for the more vivid makeup. Lip enhancement can be achieved by altering the color and thickness according to your desire.

Lip Blush

This is a perfect solution if you are seeking a modest yet attractive technique to enhance your lips’ natural color and shape. This method uses a small amount of pigment that is carefully applied to the lips to provide a long lasting natural coloration. This is a low maintenance approach to achieve a soft lip tint, because they won’t smudge or fade off all day, unlike regular makeup, giving you a youthful appearance. Pigment is carefully selected to go with your skin tone.

Lipstick Lips

this cosmetic procedure tattoos the entire lip area, you can select the best lip color and alter its intensity and shade when getting the procedure. You are no longer required to worry about refreshing up your lipstick every few hours during the day.

Differences for MAPPING (Measure) description:

Before any lip micropigmentation process begins, we will first map out the lip shape in order to achieve the most flattering results. There are different tools and techniques for creating a detailed and precise outline of the desired lip shape before applying permanent makeup.

Lip Blush can be done only in the natural lip contour, the lips tissue and skin around lips is different and has a different texture. Lip tissue is smooth and shiny, while the skin around lips has pores and hair. That is why it is not recommended to work outside of the vermillion border.

Please read prior to booking

* If you have had a cold sore in the past or believe you may be susceptible to them, it is recommended you see your doctor (2 weeks before your appointment). Applying medication prescribed by your doctor before your lip blush service will help to prevent any outbreaks. Lip micropigmentation can result in a cold sore if you are prone. If an outbreak does occur during healing, it may result in loss of pigment and undesirable patches in pigment affect.

* 24-hour swelling can occur, which is normal after getting a semi-permanent lip tattoo.

* You must also be at least four weeks past ANY filler or botox treatments around the area.

Lash Line Enhancement

This effect deposits a small amount of pigment in a pattern that mimics the natural pattern of eyelashes. It creates the effect that there are more lashes which makes the eye more defined without looking like makeup.

Eyeliner Micropigmentation

Standard Eyeliner

Standard eyeliner is a technique that creates a very subtle and natural makeup effect on the eye. Neutral colours are used to enhance the clients eyes.

Eyeliner Micropigmentation

Winged Eyeliner

This technique is dramatic for clients who wear a bold eye everyday.

Eyeliner Micropigmentation

Smokey Eyeliner

This technique is a little softer but can still create drama around the eye. It is like slightly smudging out your eyeliner for the imperfect, perfect look.

FAQs

What is Micropigmentation?
Micropigmentation, commonly known as cosmetic tattooing, is the process of inserting coloured pigments just beneath the skin’s surface. At Soul Survivors Body Art we use a state of the art, digitally controlled, computerized Micropigmentation machine. We are able to select the size and depth of the needles which allows precision and a consistent distribution of pigment. This procedure typically lasts between 3 to 5 years depending on the procedure area and type of Micropigmentation work.
What is the difference between Micropigmentation and traditional body tattooing?
The purpose of Micropigmentation is to produce a natural-looking enhancement for the client; as the results are often more soft and subtle than traditional tattooing. Traditional body tattoos use ink while Micropigmentation procedures use pigments which are designed to gently fade over time. Fading is desired as it allows the artist to make changes to colour and shape over the years as a client’s natural colouration and facial attributes may change.
Do I need a consultation appointment before booking the actual procedure?
No! You do not need a separate consultation for Microblading or Micropigmentation Brow services as a consultation is included at the beginning of every new appointment! The only time a Microblading or Micropigmentation Brow consultation is required before booking the full service is if you have had previous Microblading, Micropigmentation or any type of brow tattoo. If you are new to Soul Survivors Body Art and would like to have your questions answered to feel comfortable before booking the full procedure, please book a separate no-charge Consultation appointment. At your consultation, we would be happy to answer any questions you have and even draw on shape for you to give an idea of what your finished results would look like! If you know you would like to have your eyebrows Microbladed or Micropigmented, even if you are a new client, feel free to book in for the full appointment!

NOTE: Our other Micropigmentation procedures require a consultation prior to the procedure itself; except for the Micropigmentation Freckle service. The consultation for Micropigmentation Eyeliner or Lip Blush allows us to ensure we have the correct pigment shade for your procedure, check the procedure area to ensure we can perform your service as well as educate you on the service itself and take you through all pre-procedure information specific to you.

Will Micropigmentation work well for me?

In addition to our standard contraindications, if you have any of the following skin conditions Micropigmentation will likely NOT work well for you:

  • Excessive sebum (excessive oil)
  • Severe acne
  • Moles in the procedure area
  • Keratosis
  • Very dry skin

Additionally, if you are iron deficient or Anemic, the pigment will fade sooner, and bleeding/bruising may occur during and/or after the procedure.

Do my natural brows have to be shaved or removed?

No! We aim to keep as much of your natural brow hair as possible. Microblading and Micropigmentation Brow procedures work to enhance your existing brows and give you the fullest shape possible for your face shape. We ask our clients to arrive to their appointment with full untouched brows as a shape and tint are included (if desired/needed) during the consultation portion of the Microblading and Micropigmentation appointments.

How long does Micropigmentation last? How often do I need a touch up?
Micropigmentation is a permanent procedure that typically lasts between 2 and 5 years.

Frequency of touch ups for Micropigmentation depend on a number of factors including: the pigment colour used (lighter colours fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), iron deficiency (your body absorbs iron-oxide as a supplement), and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas.

Before semi-permanent tattoos fade out completely, the pigment colour may fade to a lighter brown, an ashy blue or have a slight grey hue. This is completely normal and can be adjusted with a touch up. Red pigment tones are absorbed by the body faster than the yellow and black molecules, this is why tattoos often look ashy when they are fading as there is an absence of red.

Soul Survivors Body Art recommends touch ups every 2 to 5 years for Micropigmentation depending on individual client needs.

How many appointments are needed?
Micropigmentation Brows and Eyeliner are all done in two appointments; the second being booked approximately 4-6 weeks after the initial appointment.
What should I do to prepare for my procedure?
If you have an ideal shape and colour in mind, bring a few reference photos with you to your appointment. For brow appointments, you are more than welcome to fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you desire.

Micropigmentation Brow appointments have an optional shape and tint service included with the cost, so please avoid waxing or tweezing your brows before your appointment. Our Brow Specialists like to work with the fullest brow possible to achieve the desired results.

If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended that you schedule your second (touch up) appointment a minimum of 14 days prior to departure to allow for proper healing – for best results, we recommend 4 weeks of full healing before travel to hot or tropical vacations.

We require our clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.

Do not drink any alcohol the night before and day of your appointment and limit the amount of caffeine you consume. It is also highly recommended that you avoid sun and tanning bed exposure for 30 days before and after your procedure. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

What should I do after the procedure?
After your appointment, you will be given an aftercare sheet with instructions, as well as a recommendation for an aftercare balm. Our team of Brow Specialists are available by email and phone for any post-appointment questions at either of our studios. Please follow the aftercare instructions thoroughly.
Do I need to take a day off work? Can I go out after?
There is no downtime associated with Micropigmentation. Redness and swelling (if any) will dissipate within 1 to 3 hours after your appointment has finished. Your brows will appear darker and scabby initially (especially the next day and for a few days following), but not so dark that you will be prevented from your activities. You can absolutely go out after your appointment!
What am I supposed to avoid while healing?
You are advised to keep the skin clean and dry, which means no swimming, sweating or otherwise getting the area wet. It also means no tanning or prolonged sun exposure, and no picking or exfoliating your brows. You can still shower and wash your hair normally, but please avoid placing your face directly underneath the water stream until they have completed the initial healing period (7 to 10 days). We recommend applying a thick layer of aftercare balm on your brows before you shower to create a barrier and keep moisture out. Avoid using any serums or facial creams on your brows during the initial healing period (7 to 10 days).

If you plan to go on a hot vacation, it is recommended to wait a minimum of 4 weeks after the touch up (second appointment) procedure for best results. Please keep your brows covered while in the sun and apply sunscreen after your brows have healed (after the 7 to 10 day initial healing period). For extended aftercare instructions, please see the “Aftercare Instructions” section below.

Can I wear makeup while my brows are healing?
Yes, you can absolutely wear your regular face of makeup, however avoid getting any liquid or powder makeup on or around the procedure (brow) area during the initial healing period of 7 to 10 days, as it will cause discolouration of the pigment.
How old do I need to be?
You must be 18 years or older to undergo a Micropigmentation procedure at Soul Survivors Body Art.
Can I have Micropigmentation if I'm pregnant or nursing?
As a precaution, we do not perform Micropigmentation on pregnant or nursing women.
What health conditions would prevent me from getting Micropigmentation?
We can NOT perform Micropigmentation if you:

  • Are pregnant or nursing;
  • Are undergoing chemotherapy or have undergone chemo in the past 12 months;
  • Are sick or unwell;
  • Are under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs;
  • Have taken any pain medication within 24 hours prior to the procedure;
  • Have taken any anti-coagulant medicine (I.e. Advil/Ibuprofen) within a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment;
  • Have a distinctive previous tattoo, a skin disorder or rash in the brow area;
  • Are under the age of 18;
  • Have Keloid scarring anywhere on your body;
  • Are on any acne medications such as Acutane;
  • Have had or are planning to have Botox, fillers, or injections within 2 weeks before or after your appointment.

If you use Retin A, please prohibit use for 2 weeks before and after your appointment; chemical peels extend the wait time to 4 weeks.

We require a doctor’s note if you have or have ever had a history of Keloid scarring, HIV, an autoimmune disorder, Hepatitis, Hemophilia, Diabetes, Epilepsy, heart problems, a skin condition that enters the brow area, take blood thinners or have any medical condition that might affect the body’s ability to heal in the procedure area.

Can I get Micropigmentation if I have previous Microblading, Micropigmentation or a previous tattoo from somewhere else?
If you have previous Microblading, Micropigmentation or a previous Cosmetic Tattoo, please book a consultation appointment prior to booking the full procedure. We require new clients with previous tattoos to book a separate consultation so that we are able to assess if we can work over the previous tattoo and if the previous tattoo is faded enough to work over.
Does it hurt?

The description is correct ONLY for the lips, when the anesthetic is given before the procedure, however for the Brows and Lash line I’m only using secondary numbing cream after the first round of micropigmentation, when the skin is open. This cream activates in 1 minute, all during the procedure.

How long does a Micropigmentation appointment take?
Micropigmentation appointments are 1.5 to 2.5 hours in length, depending on the size and intricacy of the procedure. Both services are equal parts technical and artistic and our Brow Specialists strive to spend as much time with each client as possible to ensure the best results.
What is Micropigmentation pigments made of?

The pigments used in cosmetic tattooing come in a variety of colours specially formulated with iron oxide, an ingredient safe for the skin. We do not use pigments made from organic ingredients, such as vegetables, as they have a high risk of carrying bacteria and causing allergic reactions. Because color is implanted just underneath the dermal layer of the skin, the resulting shade is soft and muted, unlike regular cosmetic makeup that sits on the surface of the skin.

Your Brow Specialist will custom mix your pigment shade to match personal preference, hair colour, skin tone, etc. Please let us know of any allergies or sensitivities prior to your appointment. We can always do a patch test on your arm during the consultation if required.

What should I know before my Micropigmentation Lash Line Enhancement appointment?
Please discontinue use of any lash enhancement products or serums 1 month before your appointment and wait 1 month after your touch up to resume use. We cannot perform this service on clients who have lash extensions, or who have recently had a lash lift. Please do not wear mascara or eye makeup to your appointment and do not use mascara or eye makeup for 7 to 10 days after your appointment.
Why do you need my credit card to hold my appointment spot? Will it be charged?
We require a valid credit card number to store on our encrypted booking system for each client in order to book an appointment. If a client does not have a credit card, we can also accept a 50% service deposit in studio (deposit payable by cash, debit or credit).

Soul Survivors Body Art requires a credit card or deposit in accordance with our cancellation policy. Services are not charged to the credit card provided, unless our cancellation policy is broken. A $1 authorization may be made temporarily (and refunded automatically) to ensure the card is valid.

Please view our Policies page to read about our 24-hour cancellation policy (this policy is also outlined in our confirmation email sent out once an appointment is made).

Do you offer a patch test?

The purpose of a patch test is to determine if you have an allergy or sensitivity to a product(s) that will be used during your service. If you are concerned about a possible reaction, you can come to our studio for a patch-test at least 3-days before your appointment date. We will perform the patch test on your inner wrist, however the side or back of the neck or any spot you are comfortable with, is acceptable.

All Soul Survivors Body Art products are available for patch testing. The most common products requested for a patch test are: Microblading & Micropigmentation pigment, numbing cream, and numbing gel.

What to expect while one of our team members is performing a patch test:
1. We will gently cleanse the area chosen.
2. We will place a small dab of the product(s) chosen with a Q-tip or microswab.
3. We will gently wipe the remaining product off.
4. If testing pigment, numbing cream/gel or any cleanser, you will be advised to wipe the product off in 1-2 hours.
5. We ask you to monitor the area for signs of a reaction. Signs of a reaction usually appear within 0-48 hours.
6. If there is a reaction contact us immediately. If no reaction, we will proceed with your chosen service!

How can I be confident that my Brow Specialist will not wax away too much hair?

At Soul Survivors we start with the most important step; brow mapping! Brow mapping is a system our Brow Specialists use to measure out where your brows should start, where the arch should be and where the tail should end. An outline is then drawn to define the suggested shape of the brow and allow the client to make any adjustments before starting with the waxing service. With client approval, the artist will only wax the areas outside of the agreed-upon shape. We will check with you multiple times throughout the appointment to ensure you are comfortable with the areas that are being waxed. Our goal is for you to be confident and informed every step of the way.

How does tinting work?

Tinting is similar to dying your hair. We carefully select and mix a perfect tint for each client and develop the dye with peroxide before applying. We have multiple shades and two different tint brands to ensure we create the perfect shade. Our Brow Specialist stay with you the entire time your tint is processing (1-5 minutes), watching the colour develop to be sure it does not become too dark. Our process involves removing the colour and re-applying until the perfect shade has developed. No risk leaving with jet-black eyebrows here!

Can the Lip Blush make your lips bigger?
NO, it cannot. Only to make the cupid’s bow a little more pronounced and add fullness to the sides of the lips, as very often the natural color is lost in those areas. Lip blushing does not make the lips actually larger, one perceives them to be bigger, instead It gives a plumper appearance or a more defined appearance. We must look at it as a semi-permanent form of makeup.
Can You Smoke After Lip Blush?
It is recommended to avoid smoking after a lip blushing procedure. You might lose pigment. If you have lips discoloration due to smoking it is advised to wait 2-3 months before tattooing.
Can I Kiss After Lip Blush?
Since the lips come into contact with saliva, food, and drinks, this can also increase your risk for infections. No kissing, rubbing, or friction on your newly tattooed lips. It is important to avoid kissing after lip tattooing to avoid bacterial, viral infection, or scarring
